Why Another Blog On Wargameing WW2
I have been thinking of starting this blog for a while, primarily as a catalogue of my wargaming and modelling activities and my specific interests in parts of WW2.
I must admit I have struggled to get started, WW2 is of itself a heavily researched and generally well understood area, the wargames community is huge and contains a vast number of extremely well informed and read individuals, It all seemed a bit overwhelming. Blogging remains an excellent way to record, share and interact with others who have similar interests should they ever find this little corner of the internet.
So my specific areas of interest in wargaming World War 2 at the moment are the closing months of the war following the Breakout from Normandy and incorporate military operations carried out by The Allies and the Germans from September 44 to May 45.
I am currently looking to Game this using the Chain of Command Rule set which I have owned for years and never played, I am looking forward to the first game but on current rates of progress think it is unlikely to be this side of Christmas. Not sure that I am yet prepared to commit to any particular year.
I am just finishing off a German Panzer Grenadier Platoon and am about to start building a Volks Grenadier Platoon and a US Infantry platoon, over time I will probably end up covering British, Canadian and Soviet Troops as well. The initial campaign I am looking at using for context is the breaching of the Siegfried line and I have been making game markers, revamping scenery, researching the period and building models for the last few months. I am trying to confine myself to hard plastic figures which I believe are both cost effective and allow the building of varied and interesting forces. All of which I hope to share in posts on this Blog which with any luck will be informed and interesting and if not will help to shaw up my ageing mind .
